However, whether or not they’re worth your money depends on several factors. One of the main advantages of portable air coolers is that they’re ideal for smaller spaces, such as bedrooms, offices, and small apartments. This makes them a great option if you don’t need to cool an entire house or if you live in a rental property and don’t want to invest in a permanent cooling solution.Another advantage of portable air coolers is that they’re generally more energy-efficient than traditional air conditioning units. I also believe that rehabilitation is an important and helpful tool for helping those affected by this crisis. I also believe that understanding the dangers and educating the public of the risks and dangers through school programs is very important.I do not know whether legal supervised drug use should be illegal, I think that we can only find out by trying it out. It seems to be a possible solution, sacrificing widespread drug usage for a lower number of overdoses. With public knowledge about drugs, I hope we will be able to reduce drug usage among all people in America.Wilson PetersenSanta ClaraClinton didn’t do stateor nation any favorsIn “Clinton turned California blue and changed American politics” (Page A6, June 7) Mark ...

2 men wrongfully convicted of Oakland murder file lawsuit

Published Mon, 24 Feb 2025 06:41:19 GMT

(KRON) -- A broke homeless woman was paid $30,000 to testify about an Oakland slaying she never witnessed. An allegedly rogue detective was bent on closing a case, with or without real evidence. Two young men were sentenced to serve life in prison for a murder they did not commit. A homicide victim was denied justice because the real killer was never caught. Three children grew up without a father in their life. This stark picture was painted in a federal civil rights lawsuit that was filed Thursday for Giovante Douglas and Cartier Hunter against the Oakland Police Department. The two Bay Area natives served nearly a decade in maximum security prisons before their convictions were overturned and their freedom was granted. At a news conference held outside the Oakland courthouse Thursday, civil rights attorney Adanté Pointer told reporters, "Imagine being sentenced to life, to serve the rest of your natural life behind bars, for something you did not do?" Dispute erupts over a section of Kentucky’s transgender law that hinges on one word

FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) — A new dispute has erupted over Kentucky’s sweeping transgender law, revolving around one word in a section banning sex education topics — including sexual orientation — from discussion in classrooms. The measure’s top Republican sponsor pushed back this week over how the Kentucky Department of Education has interpreted the provisions in offering guidance to school districts statewide. It’s part of a far-reaching measure passed this year to regulate some of the most personal aspects of life for transgender youth in Kentucky — from banning access to gender-affirming health care to restricting the bathrooms they can use at school. The ban on gender-affirming care has drawn a court challenge. The latest dispute boils down to a single word choice by lawmakers. They used “or” rather than “and” in the sex education section — leading to big implications over how it’s interpreted. As a result, districts can choose one of two bans in the section, acco...

Polis responds to property tax plan critics

Published Mon, 24 Feb 2025 06:41:19 GMT

DENVER (KDVR) — A proposal to lower property tax increases across Colorado is facing resistance in the courts. Gov. Jared Polis joined "Colorado Point of View" this week to talk about it.Twelve counties joined Advance Colorado in a lawsuit over the wording of Gov. Jared Polis' and lawmakers' proposal, arguing it’s unconstitutional because it does not have a clear title and focuses on multiple issues instead of a single subject. You may be eligible for Colorado’s property tax deferral program Democrats argue the plan would save property taxpayers an average of around $1,100 over the next two years, but opponents say it would likely only be a couple hundred dollars. The proposal will only become law if voters approve Proposition HH this fall. The measure looks to do a number of things, including using TABOR refunds to backfill the losses for certain county services, including school and fire districts. Douglas County is part of the lawsuit against the state. Lora Thomas, District 3 c...
