Steelers safety Minkah Fitzpatrick says he’ll return from injury, play Sunday vs. Cardinals

Published Fri, 07 Mar 2025 00:37:40 GMT

PITTSBURGH (AP) — Pittsubrgh Steelers safety Minkah Fitzpatrick said Friday he will play this weekend against Arizona after being sidelined for more than a month.Sunday’s game against the visiting Cardinals would be Fitzpatrick’s action since suffering a hamstring injury against Jacksonville on Oct. 29. He said the lengthy recovery process can be “annoying” but required him to be patient in building back to full speed.“You don’t know until you go,” Fitzpatrick said. “It’s one of them injuries where you can feel great and then you go out there and you run and it’s still not 110 (percent). And then you can go out there and feel great and then you might pop some scar tissue or tweak it a little bit.“And especially as a DB, receiver or running back, something like that, you don’t want to be out there until you’re 110 and you can play at full go.”Fitzpatrick has participated fully in practice all week.___AP NFL: https://apnews.com/hub/NFLSource

Judge dismisses legal challenge against Virginia state senator over residency allegations

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — A Virginia judge on Friday dismissed a legal challenge that sought to prevent the certification of the election of a state legislator, rejecting claims that Democratic Sen. Ghazala Hashmi had not met the state’s residency requirements.Retired judge Jan L. Brodie issued the decision from the bench after an hourslong hearing in Chesterfield Circuit Court. Several Chesterfield County residents filed a petition in November alleging that Hashmi, who was first elected in 2019 and recently won a second term, was not complying with the requirement that candidates live in the district they are seeking to represent. In the court proceedings, both sides acknowledged that Hashmi had rented an apartment inside the confines of the Richmond-area 15th District where she was elected in November after the most recent redistricting process resulted in new political maps. But the petitioners argued she had not abandoned the longtime family home where her husband continued to l...

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — No. 4 Florida State might have to turn to third-string quarterback Brock Glenn to start the Atlantic Coast Conference championship game against 15th-ranked Louisville on Saturday night.Tate Rodemaker, who made his second career start in the team’s regular-season finale at Florida, has been limited in practice this week while recovering from a concussion. It’s another potential setback at the QB position for the Seminoles, who appear to be one victory away from making the College Football Playoff.Rodemaker left the game briefly in the fourth quarter after getting hit in the head while sliding, a targeting call that resulted in an ejection. He returned a few plays later and handed off to Trey Benson for a game-sealing touchdown run in FSU’s 24-15 victory.Seminoles coach Mike Norvell said Friday at a news conference for the two ACC coaches that Rodemaker initial passed on-field concussion tests Saturday night but had symptoms a day later. LOS ANGELES (AP) — The longest, busiest, most grueling season in Major League Soccer history is almost over for Los Angeles FC.And there’s still a chance to end it with a trophy.LAFC hosts the Houston Dynamo on Saturday in the Western Conference final, which will be its 52nd match of 2023 across all competitions. No MLS team has ever played more matches in a calendar year than coach Steve Cherundolo’s LAFC squad, which earned that dubious achievement by winning the Supporters’ Shield and its first MLS Cup title last year and then having moderate success in the various in-season tournaments for which it qualified this year. When the LAFC players and coaches involved in this epic look back, they sometimes struggle to remember every match, every competition and every challenge they’ve met in the year since raising the Cup.“The season this year, you have to look at it in multiple parts,” midfielder Kellyn Acosta said. “You had the Champions League, you had Open Cups, Leagues ...

¿Es ilegal usar ciertas cubiertas faciales en Alexandria? La policía contesta

Published Fri, 07 Mar 2025 00:37:40 GMT

Republicans again target Democrat Lucy McBath in Georgia congressional map that keeps 9-5 GOP edge

Published Fri, 07 Mar 2025 00:37:40 GMT

ATLANTA (AP) — Georgia Republicans on Friday proposed to redraw the state’s congressional districts to create a new court-ordered Black majority district, maintaining the current 9-5 Republican congressional majority and again targeting Democratic U.S. Rep. Lucy McBath’s district for wholesale transformation. It’s unlikely that any of the newly proposed districts would produce a competitive race between Republicans and Democrats. That’s also the case with Georgia’s current map.If it passes, the map would set up a new court fight over whether the federal Voting Rights Act protects McBath’s current district from being wiped out. She currently represents Atlanta suburbs including southern Gwinnett County and a sliver of northern Fulton County, an area where no ethnic group has a majority but where Black, Asian and Hispanic voters collectively favor Democrats. That district would be carved up between two Democratic and two Republican incumbents. Lawmak...

Seahawks’ third straight loss brings playoff hopes into question

Published Fri, 07 Mar 2025 00:37:40 GMT

RENTON, Wash. (AP) — The perception coming out of another prime-time showcase is the Seattle Seahawks put forth a gutty effort and had every chance to end the Dallas Cowboys’ long winning streak after outplaying them for chunks of the night. The reality is the Seahawks are struggling in many ways. They’ve lost three straight. They’ve lost four of the last five. And a high-priced defense has let them down over the past month.Nevertheless, Pete Carroll remained steadfast in his confidence about where the Seahawks stand a day after the 41-35 loss to Dallas. In fact, Carroll believes his team may be as prepared for the playoffs as they’ve ever been by what they’ve experienced during this season. There’s only one small issue that needs to first be overcome for Carroll’s belief to be tested: Seattle must find a way to make the playoffs. And right now, at 6-6, that’s no sure thing.“I just believe we’re of that caliber,” Carroll said Friday. “We have to find our way through it and get t...
