Kiszla: Broncos would be crazy to trade Pat Surtain II, but smart to part ways with Jerry Jeudy

Published Mon, 24 Feb 2025 05:15:30 GMT

Burn it all down? As tempting as an angry response might be to a football team going nowhere, a fire sale is no way to rebuild the Broncos. So don’t bring me some hair-brained idea about trading cornerback Pat Surtain II for a bounty of future draft picks. I will gladly tell you, however, that it’s time for receiver Jerry Jeudy and the Broncos to go their separate ways.Lose at home on Sunday to the New York Jets, the only NFL team with a longer playoff drought than the Broncos, and the fingerprints of our old friend Nathaniel Hackett could be on more pink slips handed out in Denver.Drop to rock-bottom of the AFC standings with a 1-4 record, and there would be no need for the Broncos to tank for a shot at the No. 1 pick in the next year’s draft, when they could sell off veteran talent at the Oct. 31 trade deadline and watch a diminished roster get bullied for the remainder of this lost season. There would be no shortage of potential trade targets in a frustrated and anxious Denver lock...

SAN DIEGO — As if NBA Finals MVP wasn’t enough, Nikola Jokic followed his most accomplished NBA season with his most successful summer ever on the racetrack.Jokic estimated Friday that 2023 has been the best year for his horse stable, called Dream Catcher, but purely because of quantity; he bought more horses and therefore won more races.“We grew. We grew,” Jokic said at Nuggets training camp. “My horses everywhere — I have them in France, Italy, Serbia. They’re all winning races, so I’m happy.”Then, catching himself, he added: “They don’t need to be winning races. That’s my hobby. I just wish that they are healthy and that they run good. They don’t need to win.”Jokic’s own star horses include Brenno Laumar and Amy Del Duomo, but his broad fandom of the sport was on display Friday. After leaving the basketball court for the final time this week, he pulled up a live race happening in Lexington, ...

Olvera Street merchants concerned about homeless, rampant rats

Published Mon, 24 Feb 2025 05:15:30 GMT

Merchants along Los Angeles' famed Olvera Street say an increase in homelessness coupled with an infestation of rats are threatening their livelihoods.Video shared with KTLA shows rodents crawling along streets, sidewalks and under vendor stands, scavenging for food. Dead rats are everywhere, merchants say.“Part of the problem here is there is such a bureaucracy the way the city operates,” Edward Flores, owner of Juanita’s Café, told us. “There doesn’t seem to be any staffers here that are tasked with gathering them up.”Video shared with KTLA shows rodents crawling along streets, sidewalks and under vendor stands, scavenging for food. Oct 2023. Homeless tents and the surrounding areas, Flores says, are filled with food and human waste, and that has allowed the rat population to boom in an area frequented by tourists looking to dine and shop. Many vendors say they barely survived the pandemic and can’t afford any more setbacks.“They need to be more aggressive about this and try to thi...

Inland Empire reaches triple digit Fall temperatures

Published Mon, 24 Feb 2025 05:15:30 GMT

Just when the temperatures started to cool down, the heat seeped back into Southern California. Residents in the Inland Empire are feeling the heat wave as temperatures in some areas reach triple digits. Many parks were empty as residents and community members remained inside to avoid the heat. Don Ramos, a Rancho Cucamonga resident who walks laps at Hermosa Park with his dog, cut his exercise short, as temperatures climbed to the 90s just before noon. “It’s bearable, but it’s getting a little warm for her so I'm ready to take her home.” Other residents who chose to have a picnic to soak up the sun say they are keeping cool by “wiping ourselves down” and “throwing cold water in our face.” The National Weather Service issued a heat advisory for several cities across SoCal, including some in the Inland Empire which could reach triple digits through Saturday. “Highs are generally expected to range 7-15 degrees above normal,” said Elizabeth Adams from the N...

Juszczyk says team cohesion is playing into 49ers' success: 'Playing with my best friends'

Published Mon, 24 Feb 2025 05:15:30 GMT

(KRON) -- All it takes is one chant of "JUUUUUICE" to see how beloved fullback Kyle Juszczyk is by the 49er faithful. Juszczyk has proven himself to be an indispensable asset to the 49ers for his willingness and ability to both block and catch the football. Now in his seventh season with the 49ers, the Harvard product is the longest-tenured player on the offense and the second-most senior member of the team behind defensive lineman Arik Armstead. Juszczyk has seen it all in San Francisco. He came to the team for Kyle Shanahan's first season, becoming a part of the organization's shift from rebuilding team to bona fide contender. Broncos trade benched pass rusher Randy Gregory to 49ers in deal including swap of 2024 draft picks "Things have really come full-circle," the seven-time Pro Bowler told Red and Gold Zone. "We had a goal in mind when we first came here. And to see it all come to fruition, and see the culture that we've built... just to be a part of that journey has been r...

Clayton Kershaw overcomes shoulder injury to will himself into another Dodgers postseason

Published Mon, 24 Feb 2025 05:15:30 GMT

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Clayton Kershaw has never been one for making excuses. Whether it’s his health or velocity, both of which have taken hits in recent years, he would rather gut out whatever is going on in silence.“He’s a survivor, he’s a competitor,” Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said. “He just wills himself to great performance.”The 100-win Dodgers will rely on their stalwart left-hander when Kershaw starts the NL Division Series opener Saturday against the 84-win Arizona Diamondbacks. He was 13-5 with a 2.46 ERA during the season.“Might not be throwing 95, like I used to face him 15 years ago, but he knows how to pitch and he’s a first-ballot Hall of Famer for a reason,” teammate Freddie Freeman said Friday. “The velocity is 88, 89 right now and with that slider it’s still Clayton Kershaw.”Kershaw missed over a month with a shoulder injury that neither he nor the Dodgers have said much about. The team carefully managed his outings, which have not gone beyond five...
